This Spring Break, Visit PCB’s Shell Island

If you’ve been to Panama City Beach, Florida for Spring Break, you’ve likely not ventured very far from the main beach. The awesome beach parties, combined with all the free giveaways, loud music, and people as far as the eye can see, would be good reason to want to stay close by your hotel.

But… if you are looking to get away from the craziness for an afternoon, there’s a great place you need to check out!

Ask just about anyone who has traveled to Panama City Beach, Florida and they’re likely to tell you about Shell Island – one of Florida’s diamonds in the rough!

A favorite spot for both locals and visitors, this natural environment and undeveloped barrier runs seven miles east to west between the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrews Bay.

Sand dunes, coastal forests, and a majestic inland lake provide the perfect sanctuary for deer, birds, sea turtles, and other coastal creatures.

Shell Island is also a terrific spot to watch Dolphins play within their own habitat, and pay close attention and you’re likely to see a family of rays swim by. It’s also one of the very best places to view the sunset.

There are numerous tour boats that take passengers to Shell Island, including a Shell Island Shuttle that runs the short distance between mainland St. Andrews State Park and the island. During peak summer season, this shuttle runs every half-hour, from 9-5, 7 days a week. Off season schedules vary, so be sure to call ahead and check.

Keep in mind that there are no restroom facilities, concession stands, trash receptacles, picnic tables or shade pavilions on Shell Island, so take everything you need, and plan on taking it all back with you as well!
