2011 Spring Break was without a doubt, one of the best Spring Breaks in years. Newcomers like Roscoe Dash and LMFAO showed to rock the house and the Jersey Shore attended parties, clubs and showed up just about everywhere. Here is a list of 2011 Spring Break Celebrities.

Young JocRapper Yung Joc (born Jasiel Robinson) learned about running his own business from his father, who owned a hair-care products company. It was also his father who gave a teenage Yung Joc his first break, writing a jingle for the Revlon company. He later hooked up with Russell “Block” Spencer and his Block Enterprises label and released the hard club track “It’s Goin’ Down” in early 2006. The track became an Atlanta favorite and eventually landed on the desk of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Spencer had already brought the group Boyz N da Hood to Diddy, and with Joc sounding like the very hot Young Jeezy and T.I., Diddy felt he had the right artist to take his fledgling Bad Boy South label to the top. Spencer inked a multi-million dollar deal with Bad Boy to sign Yung Joc and his label Mastermind along with Spencer’s own Block Enterprises. Joc’s full-length debut, New Joc City, became one of the first releases from this new team of labels in early 2006. Cali Swag DistrictAfter originally signing with Capitol Records, Cali Swag District began to record their debut album, The Kickback. They released their debut single, “Teach Me How to Dougie, on April 13, 2010. It became a commercial success, peaking at twenty-eight on the US Billboard Hot 100, nine on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and six on the US Rap Songs chart. The songs success led the “Dougie” to become one of the most popular dances of 2010. The song’s follow-up, “Where You Are”, was released on September 7, 2010. It samples Michael Jackson’s 1972 hit, “I Wanna Be Where You Are”.[6] The song only managed to peak at forty-five on US R&B charts and twenty-two on US Rap charts. The group’s third single, “Kickback”, was released on January 18, 2011. The single peaked at ninety-one on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Due to album pushbacks, much of the The Kickback was re-worked, resulting in “Where You Are” being cut from it, making “Teach Me How to Dougie” and the title track its first two singles. |

LMFAOThis year, the entire world is shuffling to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.” So far, the unstoppable track from the Los Angeles-based duo has topped iTunes charts in seven countries, and spent weeks atop the English pop charts in April and May, when the duo kept artists such as Chris Brown and Jennifer Lopez from reaching the number one slot across the pond. As further testament to the global love for the song, the vibrant music video passed twenty million views on Vevo in under two months And LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock), is just the opening round of Redfoo and Sky Blu’s forthcoming full-length album, Sorry For Party Rocking (Party Rock/will.i.am/Cherry Tree/Interscope). “Sorry for party rocking is a party person’s excuse for having fun,” explains Redfoo, LMFAO’s member known for his gravity-defying afro. “It’s the excuse you give when someone complains,” he continues. “Let’s say your parents say ‘stop shuffling upstairs you’re waking me up!’ You can now just say ‘Sorry for party rocking, Mom…sorry for having fun.’” Redfoo’s nephew, Sky Blu, echoes the sentiment, minus the apology. “We rock the party and lead by example,” says LMFAO’s lyrical wordsmith. The duo is without question having fun in 2011, celebrating their successes by partying to the seriously infectious dance songs they have created, which prove as irresistible to radio as they do to DJs in clubs worldwide. |

Roscoe DashThe rapper — born Jeffrey Johnson Jr. — has since turned a negative into a positive. He was able to reclaim the song and add a Soulja Boy Tell’Em cameo. Now the 20-year-old Dash is signed to MMI/Musicline/Zone 4/Interscope and has a debut album, “Ready Set Go!,” slated for June 1. Aside from “All the Way Turnt Up,” which hit No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 18 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, the album includes the motivational track “All I Know”; “Pop a Bottle,” featuring Young Jeezy; and an as-yet-untitled song with Chris Brown. Second single “Show Out” moves 83-74 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. A video was shot this week and will premiere next month. Recalling the hijacking of his song, Dash says, “On the way to the club one night, [Travis Porter member] Strap heard the song and said, ‘I want to get on that.’ I took myself out of the second and third verses and put them on the song. But when they released the song last August under their name and on their mixtape, everyone thought it was their record.” Known then as ATL, Dash approached Travis Porter about the mixup. He was told it was a typo and would be corrected in the next batch of mixtapes. On the brink of signing to the group’s Porter House label, Dash decided to seek outside guidance. In fall 2009, he met party promoter L.A. Da Boomman, who signed him to his MMI (Making Moves Inc.) production company. From there, Dash teamed with Music Line Group, headed by Anthony “TA” Tate. Producer Polow Da Don then signed Dash to his Interscope-distributed Zone 4 label. Now on the other side of his rocky start, Dash doesn’t harbor any ill feelings toward Travis Porter. “I just wanted my recognition,” he says. “I had to do what I had to do to make sure I didn’t miss my blessing.” |
